One of the most amazing Greek temples

One of the most amazing Greek temples located in the Peloponnese, in Arcadia, close to the village and the Vast is a low dilapidated building, on the roof of 17 trees that grow about 30 m in height, part of the building does not include metalwork. It would seem that the church has long must collapse under their weight, however, contrary to all the laws of physics, it continues to stand for ten centuries in a row.
According to legend, the temple was built by local residents in the first half of the XII century in honor of the Great Theodora, who was unjustly murdered on that very spot. At that time in the Byzantine Empire, for which this part of Greece, was introduced compulsory military service, according to which each family was to highlight one soldier or pay big money tax. Theodore was also from a poor peasant family, which had only daughters, and to save his family from the crushing burden, 17-year-old girl went to serve in the army, impersonating a man.

Fighting bravely, Theodore quickly gained fame and respect, but at the same time and incurred the trouble. In love with a beautiful fearless warrior young girl who Theodore could not reciprocate. Angered, spurned fan decided to take revenge and severely blamed, as she thought, the man that he had defiled her by force, and now refuses to marry. Then Theodore was sentenced to death, and she does not reveal the truth, so as not to risk the well-being of his family, went to his death.
In the last minutes of her life, she turned to the Lord, saying: "Let my body becomes a temple, hair - the trees, and the blood - a creek." And if you believe the legend, the plea was heard: on the spot death of Theodora scored the spring, and the local people affected by such a miracle, built a temple on the roof of which seemed themselves grew 17 trees.
